Official Selection – Edinburgh Film Festival
Jasper is a pretentious filmmaker whose short film won an award at a festival nobody’s heard of, and who has signed up to teach a filmmaking course to three troubled youths in wheelchairs. The first day of class forces Jasper to re-evaluate how he approaches his students when they seem to know just as much about filmmaking (if not more) than he does. Not appreciating his condescending attitude towards them, they make his life as hard as possible for the duration of the course, during which Jasper obliviously decides to make a film about the struggle of being disabled.
Special People hasn’t screened at many festivals, and it’s really hard to understand why. If you’re a fan of Steve Coogan (Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, I’m Alan Partridge, 24 Hour Party People) or Ricky Gervais (The Office, Extras) you should make sure to catch this rare opportunity to see Special People.
